Mother Footer Shopify app · Last updated: August 27, 2026
Who we are
Mother Footer ("we", "the app") is a Shopify application that lets merchants collect storefront email signups in exchange for an instant discount code, and tags those customers in Shopify for email-list sync. This policy describes what data the app collects and how it is used.
Merchants are typically the controller of their customers' personal data. Mother Footer processes that data on the merchant's behalf to provide the app's features.
Information we collect through Shopify's APIs
- Shop domain and OAuth session tokens needed to run the installed app.
- Merchant staff identity fields Shopify provides with online sessions (name, email) when applicable.
- Customer email addresses when a buyer submits the Mother Footer storefront form (written to Shopify Customers with marketing consent and tags such as
newsletterand the merchant-configured tracking tag). - Discount configuration and order identifiers/amounts used only for attribution analytics (no customer name, email, or address is stored on attributed orders).
Information we collect from merchants
- App settings: discount type/value/code, success message, heading, button and placeholder copy, appearance settings, and setup-guide progress.
- Optional tracking tag name used for ESP / Klaviyo segmentation.
Information we collect from buyers
- Email address submitted on the Mother Footer theme block, plus the timestamp of signup and consent timestamp, stored in our database as a
SignupEvent. - Marketing consent is recorded in Shopify when the buyer submits the form (single opt-in / subscribed), after they confirm the consent checkbox on the storefront form. Mother Footer also stores the consent timestamp locally.
We do not set cookies, use localStorage, drop tracking pixels, or run third-party analytics on the storefront.
How we use information
- Provide the discount reveal and customer tagging features.
- Show merchants signup and attribution metrics inside the embedded admin.
- Let merchants export collected subscriber emails as CSV from the app admin. Exported files leave Mother Footer's control once downloaded.
- Log CSV export events (staff email, row count, timestamp) for protected customer data access auditing.
- Respond to Shopify mandatory compliance webhooks (customer data requests, customer redaction, shop redaction).
We do not sell personal data. We do not use buyer emails for our own marketing.
Retention
- Signup emails are retained while the app is installed on the shop, or until a
customers/redactrequest deletes that customer's record. - All shop data (settings, sessions, signups, attribution, pending data-request exports, subscriber export logs) is deleted on app uninstall and again when Shopify sends
shop/redact(typically 48 hours after uninstall).
Storage and international transfers
Application data is hosted on infrastructure operated for Mother Footer (currently Fly.io). Depending on merchant and buyer location, this may involve processing outside the European Economic Area. Shopify also processes related customer data under Shopify's own terms and privacy policy.
Data subject requests
Buyers should contact the merchant (store owner) to exercise access or deletion rights. Shopify notifies installed apps via mandatory compliance webhooks. Mother Footer:
- Exports stored signup data for the merchant on
customers/data_request(visible in the app admin). - Deletes stored signup emails on
customers/redact. - Deletes all shop data on
shop/redact/ uninstall.
